I was out on assignment covering a night soccer practice when I saw the full moon rising through the vanguard of storm clouds heading across the valley. I had to stop for a few shots.
Photographing the moon can be tricky, you just have to remember to treat it like any other front lit subject and meter as such. I switched to manual metering and adjusted my exposure to retain the detail in the moon surface. All were shot with my 70-200mm f.2.8 lens.
The moon was bright enough to illuminate the thin layer of clouds for an eerie appearance as it climbed in to the evening sky. This had to be one of the best moonrise skies I can remember.
