Get your kicks

Of all the sporting events I shoot I guess my favorite has to be soccer. There is just something about the speed, the bodies flying around and the continuous action I enjoy shooting.

Soccer is a sport that photographs best with a long telephoto lens. I use my 300 mm f.4.0 lens with a 1.4 extender, which gives me an effective focal length of about a 546 mm lens. This helps to bring the action close and blur distracting backgrounds.

A motor drive helps to capture peak action in moments like corner kicks and headers but nothing replaces good timing and anticipating the action.
