Convoy

I was suprised by the number of calls this morning to the newspaper office wanting to know if the military convoy had come through town. A group was retracing the route of a 1919 transcontinetal military convoy along the Lincoln Highway to test the roads and military transport system of the time.

A stretch of the Lincoln High crosses through Tracy what is now 11th Street. The convu left Gettysbug PA. in mid june with their final stop in Alameda sometime later this morning.

Traveling at a snails pace of 35 mph the assortemnt of military trucks, motorcycles and jeeps made its way through town escorted by police as they traveled the fianl leg of their journey. There was not a huge crowd to watch most likely since they moved their passage through Tracy an hour earlier than planned.
